Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Senior Photos

I absolutely love senior photo sessions because they capture a significant milestone in life. These photos mark the transition from adolescence to adulthood and serve as a tangible reminder of all the hard work, growth, and achievements accomplished throughout high school. Senior photos freeze a moment in time, preserving memories and emotions that will be cherished for years to come. As a photographer, I feel honored to be a part of this special journey, helping seniors express their unique personalities and interests through creative and meaningful portraits.

These photos are not just about capturing a smile; they're about telling a story, celebrating accomplishments, and embracing the excitement of new beginnings. Senior photo sessions hold so much value and significance, serving as a timeless keepsake that will be treasured by both the seniors themselves and their loved ones for generations.

As a Wisconsin senior photographer, I often encounter questions from clients about senior photos. Here, I address some of the most frequently asked questions to provide clarity and guidance for those considering a senior photo session:

1. What Should I Wear? Choosing the right outfit for your senior photos is crucial to ensure that you look and feel your best. Opt for outfits that reflect your personal style and personality. Solid colors and simple patterns typically photograph well and avoid distracting from your personality. My senior sessions include three outfit changes and up to three locations to be able to show multiple side of who you are through your wardrobe and style.

2. Do I Need Professional Hair and Makeup? While professional hair and makeup are not required for senior photos, they can enhance your overall look and boost your confidence in front of the camera. Consider hiring a professional makeup artist and hairstylist who specialize in natural, camera-ready looks. They can help accentuate your features and ensure that you look polished and flawless in your photos.

3. How Should I Prepare for the Photo Session? Preparing for your senior photo session involves several steps to ensure a smooth and successful experience. Start by discussing your vision and preferences with me, including desired locations, poses, and props. Actually all of my senior sessions start off with a custom client questionnaire to help me get to know you and tailor the session to YOU. Plan your outfits in advance and make sure they are clean, pressed, and ready to wear on the day of the shoot. My senior sessions also come with a Welcome Guide, Location Guide, and Style Guide to help you feel confident and supported. And of course I will be here every step of the way through planning to make it easy and fun. Get plenty of rest the night before and drink plenty of water to ensure you look and feel your best.

4. What Locations are Best for Senior Photos? The best locations for senior photos depend on your personal style and preferences. Consider choosing locations that hold special meaning to you or reflect your interests and hobbies. Whether it's a scenic outdoor spot, urban cityscape, or cozy indoor setting, the possibilities are endless. Work with me to select locations that align with your vision and create the perfect backdrop for your photos.

5. Can I Include Props in My Photoshoot? Absolutely! Props can add personality and flair to your senior photos, making them more unique and memorable. Consider incorporating items such as sports equipment, musical instruments, books, or meaningful objects that represent your interests and achievements. Props can help tell your story and showcase your personality in a fun and creative way. We’ll chat about what props you’re thinking of to use them in a fun way.

6. How Long Will the Photo Session Last? The duration of the photo session can vary depending on several factors, including the number of locations and outfit changes. On average, senior photo sessions typically last between 1 to 2 hours. However, I prioritize quality over quantity and will work with you to ensure that we capture the perfect shots that look and feel like you.

7. Does My Parent Stay at the Session? Most of the time a parent stays at the session. They can provide moral support or help with outfit adjustments. Sometimes if it feels like added pressure to have someone watching during photos, the parent has lingered back a ways. It’s worth having a conversation about what each of you would like to do, are comfortable with prior to the session. Know it’s okay to ask a parent to give a little space or to stay close and make sure your hair is laying just how you like.

8. How Far in Advance Should I Book My Session? It's never too early to book your senior photo session! I recommend scheduling your session at least 2-4 months in advance to secure your preferred date and time. Summer and fall are very popular time for all of my sessions. Many seniors opt for their session to happen the summer going into their senior year or early in that same fall. Please note, it’s your responsibility to know when the yearbook deadline is if you want to have a photo from our session submitted.

9. What Happens After the Photo Session? After the photo session, I will carefully curate and edit the best photos from our shoot. We’ll set up a reveal date for you to select and purchase your favorites. You can choose to send your yearbook selection photo in yourself, or have me send it in for you.

10. Can I Share My Photos on Social Media? Absolutely! I encourage you to share your senior photos on social media to celebrate this milestone moment in your life. I always encourage clients to tag me in your posts (@kellyjacobiphotography) so that I can admire and share your beautiful photos with my followers as well. Your photos are a reflection of my work, and I love seeing them shared and enjoyed by friends, family, and the community.

11. How can I book a senior session with you? To book a senior session or to inquire regarding questions and availability, you can request a phone call or reach out with a message. I'm excited to create beautiful and meaningful memories with you during this special time in your motherhood journey!
