Unlocking the Power of Pinterest: A Photographer's Guide to Planning Your Perfect Session

When it comes to planning your dream photo session - whether it's a senior shoot, boudoir, family session, or engagement - Pinterest can be an incredible tool to spark ideas, define your style, and get excited about your session. But knowing how to use Pinterest effectively (without falling into the overwhelm spiral!) is just as important as creating the board itself.

Pinterest inspiration is best used as a jumping-off point, not a shot list, to understand your vision, your style, and the kind of feeling you want your photos to have. But know with or without Pinterest, together, we’ll turn inspiration into something uniquely you.

Here’s how to unlock the power of Pinterest to help plan your perfect session, and how I help bring it all to life:

✅ Use Pinterest to Find Your Vibe, Not Exact Poses

Search broad terms like "moody senior photos," "soft romantic boudoir," or "natural family photography." As you scroll, start pinning images that feel right to you: colors, moods, locations, outfits, even emotions. It doesn’t have to be exact. I can look at your board to get a sense of your style and tailor your session accordingly.

✅ Pin with Intention

You don’t need 200 pins to get your point across. Focus on 10–30 images that really resonate. Do you love movement and emotion? Or more clean and posed? Do you lean into golden light and outdoor backdrops, or something bold and dramatic? That’s the kind of direction that helps me make the session feel like you.

✅ Create Sections Within Your Board

Pinterest lets you organize your board into sections like: outfits, poses, locations, or overall mood. This can help you (and me!) get a clear, easy-to-follow visual map of what you love.

✅ Don't Stress About Recreating Everything

Remember: The goal isn’t to recreate images exactly but to capture your essence in a way that’s inspired by what you’re drawn to. My job is to interpret your vision with my expertise, lighting, posing, and storytelling style.

✅ I Help You Plan Every Step

Pinterest boards are just the beginning. When you book with me, I guide you through the entire planning process, from choosing the perfect location and outfits to selecting the right vibe, time of day, and final photo products. We’ll use your inspiration to create something authentic, flattering, and deeply personal.

✅ A Few Prompts to Help You Pin:

  • “What colors or outfits feel most like me?”

  • “What kind of energy do I want these photos to give off?”

  • “Is there a story or feeling I want to remember when I look at these later?”

  • “Are there any places or props that feel meaningful to me?”

Pinterest can be a great way to explore your vision, but you don’t have to figure it all out. That’s what I’m here for.

When we collaborate, your Pinterest board is a supporting character and I interpret it to bring it to life with my creative direction, posing guidance, and attention to detail. The result? A session that looks beautiful, feels effortless, and tells your story.
